$50 DIY WALL Mural

If you have boring walls, an affordable way to spruce it up is to paint a bold wall mural. That is exactly what I did to our boring brown walls in our dining room for $50 of chalk paint. I chose a bold pattern, but in the end I decided I wanted to tone down the paint color from red to a muted light blue. See my TikTok below for the before and after transformation!

The “before” of our dining room walls

The “after” of our dining room walls

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Paint (I used chalk paint)

  • A paint brush or sponge

  1. Prep and wipe down the walls

  2. Choose 3-5 paint shapes to repeat in a pattern (draw it down on paper beforehand if you want)

  3. Cut out pattern shapes if you want an outline for your pattern (I did not do this and just free-handed it)

  4. Paint the pattern on the walls

  5. Add a second layer of paint if needed

It’s really that easy. The most difficult part is figuring out what pattern you’d like to go with, but I recommend sketching it out on a piece of paper beforehand if you don’t want to “free-hand” it. This was a weekend project for me and I will say it took longer than I expected. I suggest finding a good podcast, audiobook, or playlist while working on this one. Have fun!
